A scholar once stood upon a high pavilion, overlooking the market streets below. At first glance, all trades appeared orderly: peddlers beat their drums, tavern banners fluttered in the wind. Yet on closer inspection, the movements of the Chromafaces felt deliberate and restrained. Though they mirrored the bustle of mortal life, they lacked a certain ease; though they copied forms and sounds, they fell short of true naturalness.
