City of Many Faces

Description

The Chromafaces all took on mortal likenesses. Form came easily; spirit did not. Though their robes were neat and their smiles composed, their movements lagged by a breath, their expressions lingered a shade too long. It was as if a stage play had spilled into the streets, lines delivered just slightly stiff. From afar, one saw a hundred faces; up close, merely careful imitations.
