Suddenly, the door quivered with a soft knock, perhaps a visitor from a dream. She looked up, puzzled, to see an old friend pushing the door open, petals falling like rain around them. Before she could ask why she'd vanished without a word, the friend turned and fled, leaving behind only a hairpin on the path.
