Night lay ink-dark, the layered forest steeped in shadow. Only the bonfire leapt tirelessly in the darkness, its bright flames washing the surrounding trees in warm gold and red. The sleeping shape of her giant friend, its hot breath, everything carried her back to the wild joy of the moments they had just danced together.
