It broke through the clouds, scales gleaming like a river of stars pouring into the mortal world. Its eyes, sharp as blades, sliced through layer upon layer of mountain ridges, searching every crevice—down to the damp earth beneath the ferns—until at last It found a spring untouched by humankind, kept safe by her careful hands.
